There were changes made to how a search is performed. When searching the cursor moves into the address bar versus the center of the page where initiated. The below suggestion was made to resolve which works in regular view, however, it does not stick in a private window. Is there a solution for private view please?

Suggested solution in normal view does not work in private window

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste handoff and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar preference to switch the value from true to false

You would have to open the Firefox Home page (about:home or about:newtab) in the PB mode window as that pref only works with those pages (shouldHandOffToSearchMode) and not with the about:privatebrowsing page (handoffSearch).
