It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

OK did all that and the first time after that starting FF gave me just 1 window as it should be, but already the second time it gave me 2 windows and now after 4 times there are 3 windows upon startup

Just tried it again and it gave me 1 blank window not a window with the tabs that were there when I closed FF. Tried a couple more times and either I got 1 blank window or 2 blank window after 4 times 1 window with my previous open tabs
