I tried this setting under Tools, Pricacy, use custom settings for history and clicked the accept cookies. But, when I go back in, the setting is not saved.

Thanks for your reply.

First we need to determine if you can save any preferences/settings. Change a trivial setting (e.g. select the Always ask me where to save files setting under the General panel - see Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings). Close and re-open the General panel, is the setting saved?

Then have a look at the support article How to fix preferences that won't save.

Let us know how you get on.

I checked the option "Always aks me where to save files"

I checked the option to "enable cookies" - but it did not save

I then followed the commands to: Delete those files and any prefs-n.js files where n is a number (e.g. prefs-2.js). Delete Invalidprefs.js if it exists.

But, these files did not exist

Sorry, but I just need to confirm the following before I decide on the next course of action:

  • Did you successfully find the profile folder?
  • Did you ensure file prefs.js (and prefs.js.moztmp if it exists) was not read-only?
  • If any of the files (any prefs-n.js files and Invalidprefs.js) existed, did you delete them?
  • Did you restart Firefox? This is important.
  • Does Firefox now save your preferences?
