I have been using 3.6 because I like the easy to navigate toolbar and appearance! I want to continue with this layout but I keep getting messages asking me to upgrade. I've installed firefox 8 and I'm unhappy with its appearance. Can I download a patch?
I like the appearance of the earlier versions of firefox (pre V4) How do I get the same toolbar as previous versions with firefox 8?

You can change the interface in Firefox 4 (and newer) versions to look much like Firefox 3.6.x.

- Add color home, back/forward and other buttons (like Firefox 3) to the Navigation Toolbar in place of the gray buttons in Firefox 4

Status Bar replaced by Add-on Bar in Firefox 4
To add back some of the functions of the old Status Bar, install the Status-4-Evar extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
After install,
- Be sure the Add-on Bar is displayed; View > Toolbars, click to check "Add-on Bar"
- In View > Toolbars > Customize drag any or all of the 3 items to the position you want them on the Add-on Bar:
- Status text (this is the URL information you want)
- Download status (will display No Downloads or number of downloads in progress)
- Progress meter (meter of page loading)
- Set the options for Status-4-Evar in Tools > Add-ons > Extensions

Which toolbar are you talking about?
Hi,
Thanks for your reply to my question. I'm talking about the "tabs" on the old version they are below the toolbar. Also the "file edit view..." The layout is now looking more like "Google Chrome" or "IE" I simply want to have the look and useability of the older versions! Is it possible? I believe that Firefox will no longer support the older versions at some stage.
Regards
John
In Firefox 8 you can also customize your own way just download and try,

Hi, many thanks, pretty much as it was with V3
John
The Navigation toolbar might be what the original poster was referring to. The back/forward/reload buttons have been changed, and it's now more like Internet Explorer. It's not just the appearance, it's the functionality that's been changed as well. This is very unfortunate. If I wanted something that looked like IE, I would be using IE. But I don't, so I'm not.
I like(d) Firefox because it had more sensible features than IE. Clearly Firefox is trying to appeal to IE users. But what about the loyal FF users? I guess loyal users just don't have any value anymore...

Hi,
Many thanks for all your replies. The Firefox 3 theme together with the other tweaks make it look pretty much as it was.
Cheers
John
