Shortcuts and Outlook web links load VERY slowly.
Shortcuts on my desktop (or other folders) and web page links in my Outlook contacts sometimes load immediately, sometimes they take a couple of minutes to load. However, if I copy the URL in the shortcut properties or in the Outlook contact and just paste it into Firefox, the page loads immediately. I have worked around this issue by bookmarking pages within Firefox, but I have dozens of web pages entered in my Outlook contacts and having to copy and paste those URLs into Firefox is tedious at best. This does not appear to be an issue with Internet Explorer, but I got so tired of all the ads that I made Firefox my default browser and installed AdBlock. My Firefox version is 23.0.1. Any ideas that don't require me to be a computer genius would be appreciated.

Hello,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:
- Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
- Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
- Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
- From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
- Now click the Clear now button.
Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Is there anything special about how you start Firefox, such as security software that creates a "sandbox" around the browser?
This worked for a day or two, but the problem recurred after I marked it as having been solved. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help and patience...
You can check for problems with DDE.
Thanks for trying to help, Cor-el. I reinstalled Firefox and checked for extension updates. Neither helped. I don't feel comfortable with the other processes as I'm not that computer literate. In the end, I cleared the history, cookies and cache again and it's working for now. Guess I'll have to do that periodically.
