As of 8/24, most of my emails go directly into the trash instead of the "inbox". I have certain companies, like Daily Herald, etc. that I want to receive.

I don't know if this was the result of a Thunderbird update of if this problem began when I was creating a filter for an unsolicited junk email I had received. When I clicked on "run", every single email from the "In box" went to the trash, instead of just the item I had highlighted. I then highlighted everything from the trash and it moved back to the inbox. None of the items I retrieved from the trash and want to receive were among the 685 items listed in my junk mail message filter. I have no idea how all of those messages got filtered as trash. I had hoped the problem was resolved, but as the day progressed, I noticed that almost every email I received still went straight to the trash.

Examples of emails I like to receive: Daily Herald updates, Netflix, World Market, Best Buy, etc. I haven't scheduled any bill payments since 8/24, but I have to presume the automatic responses from scheduling a payment will also go to the trash. Even the Mozilla Support email that was sent just when signing into my account went straight to the trash. There are several emails that I like to keep for my records, so I don't want to close out my account and start over. It appears messages from personal friends still go to the "In Box", but every business email goes straight to the trash whether it is desired or not. The filtering has gone to the extreme.

The help section does not address this problem, so I am at a loss on how to resolve this. There doesn't seem to be a process to do the opposite of filtering messages. In the dream world, I'd need to highlight the messages I want to receive.

Any insight into this problem would be most appreciated.

Problem Solved. I used Google to research my problem and found some very good information on troubleshooting. For the last filter I created for junk mail, I accidentally clicked on "doesn't contain" instead of "contains", and thus every single email message I received since that moment obviously did not contain those key words, so they were going to the trash!!!

What a relief to get new messages back into the in box. Thank you Google and those who offered assistance to someone in the past.

After sending this question, I realized that all of my new messages are going straight to the trash, even if I send one to myself. I clicked on properties and repair folder, but that did not solve the problem. Until 2 days ago, all was well and only filtered messages went to the trash. I've been using Thunderbird since it's inception and never experienced any major issues before. Thunderbird Version 38.2.0 updated this week, but I doubt that was the cause of this problem.
