for the last 3 weeks firefox refuses to let me into yahoo mail, yahoo OK but for mail it now says that it doesn't like the connection!!!
It started with the link I normally use, but also gives the same problem when I start from the yahoo hame page. It shows the home page and lets me use other links from that page, except my mail!

Maybe it's Hola. My understanding is that everyone using Hola is part of a shared network, and this might make your connection details changeable. Yahoo sites may not work well in that case.

Do you get any certificate errors on other HTTPS sites, or just Yahoo mail? Any pattern you've noticed can be helpful in diagnosing the problem.
If you haven't already, please try these general suggestions:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Clear Firefox's Cache
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove your yahoo.com cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?
Many thanks for your advice. I cleared the firefox cache last week but yahoo wouldn't stand still for me to try finding their one!! Bloody Hilton hotel adverts wouldn't stop! At the bottom left of the screen there's non-stop activity! Could the problem stem from using Hola? That plays with my location (N.E.Thailand) so it seems I'm in the UK and can watch the rugby world cup on ITV. I'm afraid I'm from the age of the abacus and slide rule!!
Just gave it another try and always the same message about a proxy server configuration????

Many thanks for all the help. Tried to remove Hola last night but it doesn't appear on the list of programmes! Just not, after deleting a few years old programmes and defragging I went to firefox and (without clicking on the hola logo) tried yahoo mail - no problem! Again, many thanks for the assistance.
You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.
You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.

- (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
Hi cor-el and many thanks for your responce. I'm afraid that it went a bit over my head and I am loath to start playing with various flash players. There are probably a few out of date versions i n there as this computer is almost 15 years old (state of the art back then!) Seems the problem is caused by Hola, when its activated. It doesn't turn up on the list under add/remove programmes but sits on the top right of the firefox page. If I do my emails before clicking on it to get UK TV seems ok. Thanks again Bobby
Hi Bobby, the Flash installer is supposed to clean out the old versions for you, but cor-el noted that you have something lingering. It's probably not the end of the world, but Flash may stop working at some point because Firefox considers it to be dangerously out-of-date. At that point, you won't be able to put off the clean-up any longer.
Feel like I'm in over my head here!! have 2 adobe flashplayers listed on add/remove, both 19! Active x and NPAPI. Which, if either, should I get rid of?

ActiveX is for IE, NPAPI is for browsers that use plugins. Sounds as though you might only need to remove the NPAPI one if you want to uninstall through the Control Panel.
It also often is effective to physically delete the extra file, using the location information on the about:plugins page. That just not the official way.
You should see the path of both Flash player versions on the about:plugins page. You at least need to remove the Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0 DLL file and possibly the Shockwave Flash 19.0 r0 version if that isn't the latest Flash Player 19.0.0.185 release.

I'll NEVER be a computer nerd!!! I found the plugin page and saw both 18 and 19 versions but couldn't find anything to let me delete the 18! Windows searches on the full file name produced no hits! So its there but its not there!!! Getting to the stage of the computer hitting the wall!!!
Hi Bobby, the about:plugins page only has information, it doesn't let you delete from there. On that page, if you use Find (Ctrl+f) and look for npswf32 you will find multiple entries with a full path. I suspect that on Windows XP that leads here:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
If you go to that folder, you should see more than one file matching this pattern:
NPSWF32_various_numbers.DLL
You only need the most recent file.
Found the page OK but 2 files listed with that number string - both with the same date! The other files were mostly the same date too, except the log.
You will have to check the folder where the files are located to see if they are actually there.
Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.
