When I open Firefox, the menu bar will show and then the screen slowly stretches so that the bar is inaccessible (it looks like it is rising up and disappears off the screen). How do I fix this?

It is possible that you run Firefox in Full Screen mode.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode (Mac: Command+Shift+F).
