I have six email accounts in the account settings. I cannot access any of the accounts to change or remove them. If I click on the name of an account or any of the subfolders of the account in question e.g. server settings, copies and folders etc. then a box comes up that says "An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name" . Help because I need to remove three email accounts. I have Windows 7 operating system on my PC.

You have made life difficult for yourself. I can see two, possibly three accounts that, externally, appear to be identical. I'd have made them distinguishable by, for example, using the username as the account name.

I think I'd backup my profile (just in case things get worse), then open the Config Editor, (or close Thunderbird and manually edit prefs.js) , and change the account names to be unique. Then close/restart Thunderbird.
