'Trash' might also be called 'Deleted',:

make hidden folders visible:

location of Profile folders

In Thunderbird:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'show Folder'
  • A new window will open showing Profile Folder
  • Close Thunderbird Now - this is important.
  • Click on 'Mail' folder
  • click on the pop mail account name
  • Delete the 'Trash', 'Trash.msf' files and the 'Trash.sbd' folder. So you can start afresh. But this will delete anything in those files, as they are trash I suppose it is not such a big issue.
  • Right click in blank space and select 'New' > 'Text Document'

A file called 'New Text Document.txt' , a 'Text Document' will appear.

  • Usually, the part 'New Text Document.txt' is highlighted ready for you to rename immediately - if not right click on it and select 'Rename'. Select all the text - Highlight all of it including the .txt part.
  • Type: Trash
  • click in a empty space below the newly created file. You should get a pop up window warning you about changing the file type eg: if you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable, are you sure you want to change it? You must click on 'Yes' because you do want to change it. The icon should change and the 'Type' should change from 'Text document' to 'File'

  • Close window - top right X
  • Open Thunderbird
