How do I set my messages to come in and show on screen by date?

I like my messages to show on the date they come in. Mine are now showing alphabetically. Dates range from Jan 2115. This is not acceptable. This just reverted yesterday and I am not happy with it!!

At the top of the list of messages there is a bar with the headers for each column: subject, from, date, size etc. (whichever columns you have chosen to display). Click on the 'date' header and they will be sorted by date; click on the 'subject' header and they are sorted by subject; and so on.
