Each time thunderbird compacks my file things get lost or put into the wrong folder; such as incoming messages are put into the trash folder
Some income messages listed as downloading and don't come through on the inbox or anywhere else. . Other incoming messages are put into trash. Some messages are completely lost.

The first thing I suggest is checking the hard drive for errors.
You don't say if you are using Windows, Mac, Linux, or other.
I can give instructions for Windows, if you tell me which version of Windows you are using.
