Firefox Crashes / Will Not Start After Update

more options

Firefox will not start and instead gives me an error message after I update it. Versions before 50.1.0 work fine. For later versions, as soon as I open Firefox, the crash reporter opens instead and asks if I'd like to report it. I do and request to restart Firefox, but again another crash reporter opens instead. One crash ID that I recently had is: bp-5b6d1b68-48d5-48e4-a1bb-2e8290170425.

This appears to be a crash related to Websense Endpoint business security software (the DLL "qipcap64.dll" is called immediately before the crash). Is that something running on your system? Please see: Old versions of Websense cause startup crashes in Firefox.

Yes, it appears that is likely my problem, yet now I don't fully understand why. I have Triton AP-Endpoint version 8.2 build 2422 on my machine. According to the Triton AP-Endpoint browser support matrix at https://support.forcepoint.com/KBArticle?id=TRITON-AP-ENDPOINT-DLP-Browser-Support-Matrix, Firefox v52 should only require 8.2.0.2340 or later. Since 2422 > 2340, I'd guess that my Triton AP-Endpoint is OK. Maybe not?

Interestingly, note that v50 is the latest Firefox version I can get to work, and that matrix says v50 is the highest version where Triton AP-Endpoint v8.1 is all that is required. Might this have something to do with the Triton AP-Endpoint Policy Engine Version (given just under the Version 8.2 build 2422 as 8.1.0.151) on my machine?

Either way, I think I'll go ahead and contact Forcepoint/Websense as the link in the previous answer suggests.

Thank you, because I was getting very confused. :-)
