Clicking a message listed in a results tab opens the message/preview pane even though Messages are set to open in a new window
Hi. I like all my messages to open in a new window, so I have set Tools > Options> Display > Advanced > Open Messages in a new Window, and View > Layout > Message Pane disabled.
This works fine in my Message Lists for my inbox, Sent, etc . but when I do a search and click one of the messages in the Search results a single click opens the preview/message pane at the bottom of the list of messages, and a double click displays the message in both the preview/message pane and in a new window !
So my question is: How can I disable the preview/message pane in Results Tabs? I have, of course tried F8.
While on the subject of Preview Panes and Message Panes, I note that Page 44 of the Thunderbird Manual of 2014 states "The Message pane lists your messages, with the newest appearing first in the list. The Preview pane, which is just below the Message pane, shows the body of a message that you clicked on in the Message pane". I have noticed however that what was in 2014 called the Message Pane is now often called the Message Listing, and what was in 2014 called the Preview Pane is now called the Message Pane ! What are the current correct names of these panes please?
Many Thanks MALCOLMHS

"Thunderbird manual"? Which one?
For the names of things, I use this site. I don't know of an authoritative manual that I'd trust for nomenclature.
We now discourage use of the phrase "preview pane" since it does allow you to view the complete message; it's not a precis or summary. I would say that it seems not to render all html graphics quite as thoroughly as the larger window.
Long-time users of Thunderbird and old timers tend to read all their messages in this so-called "preview" pane (and many of them would do so using plain text only). It's one click less to open it, and it doesn't need closing, unlike a window or tab.
