Can't find any way to enter text in a connected IRC chatroom ...

Chat newbie.

Created new chat account on freenode.net - entered chatroom #mageia-mentoring. It looks like I'm connected (I can see a caption for the room/channel) - but there is no content displayed and I have no idea where to type my messages.

Adding annother account on irc.mozilla.org - entered chatroom #thunderbird. Same thing. I can't read or write anything. What am I missing?
