Firefox and Xmarks are not working well together anymore. But that's for another topic... I now need to simply restore my favicons to my bookmarks. How can I do this? I have another machine that still has the favicons intact. Is there anyway to copy them from that machine to this machine?

Please consider turning on send info to Mozilla before posting a question. This helps us help you.

Now this is your bookmarks I take it. Can go to Firefox Toolbar then Bookmarks then Show All Bookmarks them Import and Export So Export the bad one as HTML and rename to bad.bookmarks.html then import the good ones. Never work with your original files. Always work from a copy.

See if that does anything or if it wipes it out again.

Note : Firefox 56.0.2 is current release https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ Full Version Installer Note : Firefox 57 Quantum release date Nov 14th https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/quantum/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be disabled and or removed.

Thanks pkshadow for the reply. But I already did that... sort of. I saved the good bookmarks from the other machine as a .json file. then restored/replaced the bad bookmarks on the machine in question. The bookmarks are fine. It's the favacons that don't transfer. I just end up with the default FF favicons.

I then tried to save/restore the places.sqlite file in the same manor, but to no avail. The default favicons still exist. But, If you think saving/restoring as HTML will work, I'll try that.

I never had any problem before the FF 56.x update. Now all my machines with FF 56.x are screwed up using xmarks. And yes, I'm using the latest version of xmarks. But as I said, that is for another topic.

Thanks again, pkshadow. The HTML trick did the job. Which raises another question... what is the .json save used for, then?

It is a complicated way of doing things I think. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/JSON But it holds true to what other things involved in your Profile are in. And how to work with the passwords and such.

Personally I have always exported as HTML as I have never had a corrupted one yet plus I can take the Bookmarks and just open them from a USB in a browser and have what I need while travelling.

Glad it worked out for you.
