Firefox automatically plays any video I've downloaded; this interupts whatever video I'm currently watching. Can I stop this from occuring?

The title basically says it all. I'm downloading multiple videos from a tutorial series I want to watch. While I'm waiting, I've decided to watch a documentary that's downloaded on my computer. Unfortunately my video keeps on getting interrupted whenever a tutorial video finishes downloading. I'm using VLC media player.

There are 2 forms of (well more but) Flash and HTML5 if HTML5 - Copy/Paste about:config into the Address Bar then Enter. Then Copy/Paste media.autoplay.enabled into the search bar in the new window. Double click to change to False. Remember what you did.

For Flash Copy/Paste about:addons into the Address Bar then Enter. Change Flash to Always Ask.

Restart Firefox.

Or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/disable-autoplay/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-flash-html5/ or search in the above address.

Most likely this is a setting in your video downloader -- whether it is an add-on or a separate program -- because when Firefox downloads a file, it does NOT automatically open it.

If you are using a downloader add-on, check its toolbar button or its Options button on the Add-ons page to see whether you can control this aspect of its behavior.

You can open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then find the extension on the right side and look for an Options button, or try its More link.

If you track it down, please post the details here so others can benefit from your research.
