Compose new e-mail as new tab, not new window in Taskbar
Using Thunderbird on my old laptop til it died three weeks ago and the default was that when I composed a new message it showed as a new tab in TB. Installed it on my new laptop (still using Chrome and Windows 7), and now it shows up as a new window in the taskbar and to to switch between messages I have to go to the taskbar instead of just changing tabs. Also, when switching from other programs, I can't just click TB, I have to click TB and then pick one of the windows. Please, anyone, how to get back to quick and easy default of composing new message as a tab NOT this pain in the ass of a new window in the taskbar??? :) Thank you, Jeff

Composing in a window is the standard way and has been forever. People frequently ask for composition in a tab, so I'd have to ask you what you have done in the past to make this possible.
I think I have seen add-ons to support this, but if that is so, all were considered experimental and incomplete.
Wow, I didn't do anything. Add-ons are way beyond me. That is surprising (and frustrating) that the norm is that when someone is already in TB and looking at a message, they have to go to the taskbar and click twice there (or hover, wait, click) to get to one of the compose pages instead of just a quick click within TB?!? And the same thing to go from another program to TB,they have to click twice or hover and wait and click instead of just one quick click???
I had no idea how blessed I was before! Perhaps there was some version of TB that did it that way that is now long gone? I installed that one in 2013, I believe.
Thank you for your help, sad though I find the answer... :)
OMG, so silly!!! if i go to TB from another program and select an email i am composing and send it, it doesn't drop me back into TB, but the program i was in before. whew. ok, i will get used to all of this in time, but so silly!
