I wish to be able to access emails and contacts across different devices and cross-platform

I am contemplating installing Thunderbird as my email client on my PC (Windows10), iMac Pro (High Sierra), Samsung S7 (Android) with the intention of being able to have access to all emails and contacts across all devices.

1. While I understand IMAP is the way to go for emails, how are contacts and calendar synched across devices with Thunderbird and is this at all possible?

2. Secondly, my ISP allows IMAP but the email storage capacity provided to me is small. This means that I have to keep deleting emails in this account to allow space for new incoming emails. Can I write a rule in Thunderbird that transfers incoming emails from my ISP IMAP account to a folder that can then be visible across all devices?

I would be grateful for any workable solutions. Many thanks in advance. Regards

1. My Gmail-calender is synced (Windows, Android, Ios)

2. You can move mails to a local folder. But thats local and cant be seen by others. You can move them within your IMAP-account, but that doesn't reduce the size You can move them to another IMAP-account

Remember: Whatever you do on one device affect the other devices. As that changes the IMAP-account and all are then synced to this.

Thank you Gnospen for your quick response. Much appreciate it. My apologies for asking what might be obvious to you and to many others but I can't seem to get my head around this issue.

1. Let's say, I populate from afresh a calendar and contacts on my iMac (Lightning addon to Thunderbird) Can I then see the same calendar on my phone and on my windows laptop (assuming I am using thunderbird and lightning on these devices)?

2. For the emails from my ISP (with the limited space) can I set Thunderbird to store incoming/outgoing emails to the cloud which can then be accessed by my laptop and android phone?

Many thanks Regards

1. All your e-mail questions can be answered by searching IMAP vs POP. These are email standards and the info is readily available. There is an option in Thunderbird to load a copy of emails to the local device for viewing if you are without Internet connection. This is a dynamic cache and it will a!ways sync with the server when you reconnect to it.

2. You have to add an online calendar to Lightning if you want a calendar viewable across platforms. I added a gmail calendar to my setup since I use Windows and Android. I am not sure if that will work with your MAC.

3. The same goes for your contacts. There are addons for Thunderbird to sync address books with an online book like gmail.

4. Thunderbird does not run on Android so you need to use the email client that came on your phone or download another of your choosing from the Play Store.

Thank you both very much. I'll do the necessary research and try to obtain an optimal solution for me.
