How do I get thunderbird/lightning/owl reminders to show up as kubuntu notifications as "stay on top" pop up windows?

Thunderbird/Lightning/Owl reminders pop up as thunderbird dialogs and often "pop under" other existing windows. I would like to be able to tie calendar reminders to kubuntu notifications and have them pop up as "always on top" dialog windows. Is this possible?

ubuntu has a unity desktop integration add-on. Perhaps your distribution has something similar.
