Thunderbird OUTGOING mail is not sending. We've verified SMTP server name info and password. INcoming is OK. All was OK until the most recent T'bird update.

OUTgoing mail isn't working from T'bird GUI even though we can use the ISP's email client (clunky) successfully to send emails with the same / existing settings. We've verified that T'bird has correct SMTP server name and SMTP password. We haven't changed anything in T'bird, but T'bird was automatically updated 7 days ago. This update seems to coincide with the OUTgoing mail problem.

Who is the mail provider, and what are your smtp settings? What is your antivirus, and is it set to scan outgoing mail or secure connections?
