How can I disable update notification?

I am using Firefox Nightly. It receives updates every day, but most of the time I cannot restart Firefox as soon as update is available. I want to delay it till next natural restart (ex.: night), however, Firefox shows notification about the available update. It's a minor issue, but seeing notification every day and having it to close every time gets annoying very quickly. I want to disable update notification but keep automatic updates. How can I do this?

Why are you using the Nightly build that updates twice per day to get the latest fixes and not Beta or DE that is also a developer build but these received updates twice per week and are more stable ?

If you want to use Nightly then you need to accept how it behaves and accept that you you are prompted multiple times per day (there also can be respins to fix serious issues).

Hi

I use Nightly myself so I hope I can help.

When I am busy and/or do not have the time to restart Nightly, I just keep using The browser until I need to shut down.

Although it can help if there is a severe issue, you do not need to restart when that notification appears

How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

You can use a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder instead as also listed in the article, so no need to use GPO keys in the Windows Registry. • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson

Note that the Zaoshi doesn't want to disable updates, but Zaoshi uses a Nightly build that receives updates twice per day and gets a notification that an update is available and that Firefox needs to be restarted.

@ Zaoshi

I assume that you have selected "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" to be able to choose yourself whether to download and install the update ?

@cor-el

No, I have selected "Automatically install updates (recommended)". I want to automatically download and install updates. However, I do not want to see notification every day.

For example: it is 7 AM. I start Firefox. There is a green circle with an arrow indicating there is an update. But I do not want to restart Firefox right now. I want it to update the next time I open/close Firefox. I will keep it running and during the evening notification will be shown informing me about the update. This scenario happens every day because Firefox is too aggressive with its updates.

As an example, Chrome also shows green circle with an arrow, but after a few days it turns yellow, then red, and only then it shows notification that update is overdue. It is not trying to force me to update after just a few hours.

That it a good question. I had an issue with stable version of Firefox and reported a bug. Then I was asked to try it in the Nightly which worked just fine. Due to that I started to use Nightly on a daily basis. I will just go back to using stable. Just need to figure out how to move all of my data.

Edit: awesome. While I was playing with Firefox sync it lost all of my extension settings. Guess now I do not have anything to migrate.
