EVERY time I start Firefox (and I keep it updated) after a Windows 10 initial start or restart, instead of coming up on my Home page, I get a message that it can't open the last page I was working on. This is rather annoying. All I have to do is click on the home icon to get there, but I don't understand why the first time I start Firefox it doesn't just come up on my home page.

Under settings, I DON'T have a check-mark by "Open previous windows and tabs", so why is it even trying? It seems like a bug to me, but if that was true, I'm sure it would have been fixed by now (because this has been going on as long as I can remember) so I'd be curious to hear some comments about this.

That screen indicates that Firefox is trying to perform a crash recovery. It raises the question, why does Firefox think it crashed?

During a normal shutdown, assuming you allow Firefox to save history, Firefox creates a session history file in your profile folder named sessionstore.jsonlz4, and updates a file named sessionCheckpoints.json to indicate everything went normally. So what could go wrong?

(1) Not shutting down fully

Do you close out Firefox using the menu (menu > Exit, or on the menu bar, File > Exit)? That has the best chance of the two files updating correctly.

(2) Files being removed

If you have a cleaning/privacy program like CCleaner running at system startup, it might be removing the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file or modifying other browser data.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I tend to just "x" out of Firefox. I try to remember now to File - Exit.
