Running 3 email accounts on Win10/TB 91.8.1 then had disk error. Bought new Win11 and restored all critical data (large amount of saved local folder data). The problem is that on one account, I can see the inbox list but none on the list displays in the content box. Now here's the rub. I can see the content when I examine the junk or trash boxes just not in the inbox! All the other features work fine. A couple of message filters got lost but that was not a problem and they were with the account that does not display properly. Other accounts all perfect. WHAT!

Solved. After re-installing the account 6 times, all is well. Luckly the mail. boxes were automatically resolvable from the email address (other in/out boxes were not).

Well, almost solved. The TB icon on the taskbar keeps incrementing on each check for mail, even when there is no mail there. It ONLY does this on the account that was giving a problem! When I highlight the inbox for that account, the counter clears. Not a big problem. Not a functional problem. But it maybe something that could be looked into.

Spoke too early. Back to the same problem. Seems that in order to keep this one account up to date I need to remove it and re-install it. Would love to hear some ideas.

Update. When I remove the one account and re-install, then I get all the messages. Once another message arrives, the counter on the taskbar starts to increment but the new email is not listed. I can see any updates in the trash but not the inbox. Removing and re-installing the account seems to be the only way to get this account to work. All the other email accounts work properly. All the message filters on them work. I cannot get my head around what could possibly be happening.

have you tried right clicking the folder in question and using the repair button? Historically anti virus product often cause issues with lists as they lock the storage file just when Thunderbird is trying to edit the lists.

Learn something every day. I have used Mozilla Mail since the mid 90's on every version of Windows. I have recovered from countless crashes, upgrades and more. An indexing problem I have never come across in this product. Plenty in other products, OSs and more. Thanks for this.

Well, problem almost, nearly, just about solved. The "repair"/re-indexing of the box not complete. Note here that I also access this account via my cell phone with NO problems. Turns out that I am having to "repair" the inbox every day. This resolves the issue for the day, but not completely. I can tell when the mail icon starts indicating that there are X number of unread mail and there is nothing displayed. There is even some times when the icon is displaying a number and I have to cycle through the inboxes to clear it, yet nothing new is there. Annoying but I can clear the flag.

Bad to worse. The inbox "repair" was working but all of a sudden, it needed to be done each time. Now ONLY the newest message is shown in the message box and all the other messages are empty. I have used this email service since inception with no problems whatsoever. I have sworn by it. NOW it is falling apart! Why is it that I can access this one account with other products but Thunderbird is failing - again on just one mail account, not all the others!

Nothing seems to help anymore. It has gone from worse to terminal. Again, just for the one account?

Is there a file that contains the index that I can remove and rebuild? I believe that removing and re-installing the broaken account may be using the same index, not creating a new one. I base this on the fact that removing an account does NOT remove the passwords for that account.

Still cannot get email text to display. Re-installed Thunderbird - no change. Removed and configured account too many times to remember. This is getting very frustrating.

I presume this is an imap mail account. After removing the account via Account Settings > Account Actions

Exit Thunderbird to ensure all gets updated. - not sure if you did this. Wait a few moments for background processes to complete then restart Thunderbird. Then add the imap account again.

Check settings: In the Account Settings > Synchronisation & Storage for imap account Select checkbox:'keep messages in all folders for this account .....' Click on 'Advanced...' button Make sure all folders are selected and click on OK Under 'Disk Space' Select 'Synchronise all messages locally regardless of age'

check you have these settings: Menu app icon > View > Threads > All Menu app icon > View > Folders > All

Hi I just updated to 102 and discovered for one account I could see emails in list but nothing displays for any email in any folder for that account. Repair folder did not work. But the following did work, so it might be worth a try.

I accessed the profile folders: In Thunderbird Help > More TRoubleshooting Information Application Basics section - half way is Profile Folders - click on 'Open Folder' A new window opens showing the contents of your profile name folder.

Exit Thunderbird now.

Delete the following files:

  • global-messages-db.sqlite
  • panacea.dat (this is used in version prior to 102)
  • folderCache.json (replaces panacea.dat in versions from 102)
  • session.json
  • xulstore.json

Restart Thunderbird and files gets recreated. All folders in effected account now display contents of emails.

Half way there. New emails available but some of the old ones come up blank. Good try!
