I installed the latest version of Thunderbird (128.6.0esr) on my new laptop (17 inch ASUS w/ 40 gb memory and 4 tb hd). I installed my e-mail information (mcarroll@iximd,com with the associated parameters), BUT this Thunderbird will not access my mail. I checked back on the installation and the new Thunderbird wants a "primary password". I was NEVER asked to create one and have not been able to change/create a new "primary password". I have tried deleting the program from the computer, downloading and reinstalling another copy, but end up with the same problem. How do I fix this problem? Or do I have to use Outlook or some other mail program from the internet? mcarroll@iximd.com

My 'guess' is that you may have accidentally set a primary password. Since you're having problems anyway, the easiest fix is to uninstall thunderbird AND delete the thunderbird folder at c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird and start over.
