I just got a couple of new monitors and afterwards the text in Thunderbird showed up in microscopic text. I couldn't get it to enlarge. Thunderbird thought it was up to date, but it was also on 38 something, which I guess is a pretty old version.

Anyway I just updated to 128 ESR and I was able to get the font sizes OK, but there are some things I liked that are missing.

1) Above the folders column that shows all the various inboxes and other folders there used to be a button labeled "Get Messages Now". Now there is a button that says "+New Message" . How do I get the Get Messages Now button back?

2) The folders used to display the total messages in a folder in one column and the number unread in another column. Now it just displays the number unread. How do I get the total messages in the folder column back?

Thunderbird has changed a bit since v38. You may want to check this:

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/getting-started-thunderbird-main-window-supernova

The 'Get Messages' button is that small icon to the left of the '+ New Message' button, and the option to add the column of total messages in the '···' menu to the right.

Thank you. I see both now. However the icons are microscopic. The Get Messages icon blends into the background it's so small. Is there a way to make the icons larger?

At least you can see them. And, if you can see them, you know where to click. When I first installed thunderbird, I thought there was a smudge on the screen. Go to View/Tool Bar/Customise Drag 'Get Messages' (and any other icon you want) onto the Tool Bar

There's a hidden setting that controls the resolution at which Thunderbird displays and sometimes has a wrong value for some reason.

Go to Settings > General, click Config Editor at the bottom, then type layout.css.dpi in the search box.

What value does it show? If not -1 (default), note the current value (in case you want to change it back), set it to the default -1, and see whether things look better. If the change makes things worse, just change the setting back to the value it had before.
