bad script nsExtensionManager.js:623 locks up Firefox add-ons and plug-ins
I've started getting the message below any time I try to use add-ons or plug-ins such as Google toolbar and Yoono.
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623
Neither the "cancel" nor the "stop script" button will make the warning box go away. Nothing but a reboot will. And any time I try to go to Tools-Add-ins, or use any Add-ins, the box comes back and I'm locked up again.
Rebooting does not solve the problem, and oddly, reinstalling Firefox does not solve the problem. I also opened Firefox in SAFE mode, and I still get the exact same problem.

Do you have the Persona's add-on installed? The latest update of Firefox has the Persona's option integrated. Uninstall it through safe-mode if you have it. You should have no problems after that. (:
It did really solve the matter.. Thanks a Zillion !!..
Hi
I had the same problem...My Google tool bar was not functioning.
I found that personas 1.6 extension was causing a conflict with Google toobar
My solution was to disable personas 1.6 extension and reload the Google toolbar. I reloaded the Google toolbar from the Google site not the Firefox site
Ciao
Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. This was driving me absolutely insane, and now it's working again. What a relief!
Yep, when I did a full uninstall, including all my previous preferences, bookmarks, etc., things started working again because Personas was gone. That's a shame because Personas is very cool, but it's not like Google toolbar is a rare thing for people to have, so if it's incompatible, the developers better jump on that asap. Big flaw.
In Firefox browser go the Tools menu> Add-ons> Themes. There should be a link near the preview and the Add Updates option called Get Themes. Clicking that should take you to the Persona's Gallery. The latest update of Firefox has the Persona's option integrated, therefore you are still able to have your desired theme.
I am unable to get to the addon manager, even in safe mode, the manager will not start. I will get the extension error after clicking it. I just updated personas :(
You're probably not exiting Firefox completely. Open the task manager and choose the Processes tab. Find the firefox.exe, select it and end process. If you have the Firefox Preloader installed, look for the FirefoxPreloader.exe and end that process as well. You'll know everything is closed when the error message stops reappearing. Hopefully this will enable you to open safe-mode. (;
That solved the problemS. Thanks a million for the info.
Uptonca, thank you, thank you!! After reading your post, I did what you said and it worked! So glad to have my Google Toolbar back!
I have a mac there for no option to start in safe mode. Any ideas?
pitdoug1998, to start the Mac in safe mode, hold down the option key as you start Firefox. See the safe mode article for more details.
Oh my gosh...thank you very much....This fixed the problem!
I can't find Persona but the problem started when the system was installing it. How can I find and delete Persona ?
sspoerli, see Disable or remove Add-ons for how to remove an add-on, in particular the section on uninstalling extensions.
If you can not access the add-ons manager, you will need to use Firefox safe mode to access the add-ons manager. For details on that see safe mode. There is more information on using safe mode to uninstall add-ons in the Cannot remove an add-on (extension or theme) article.
Great! Now Firefox works fine. Fersona addon is the problem. Thank u!
Thank's heaps for your tips. It definitely helps...and it solved my problem. Now, my Google toolbar is working perfectly again while it didn't work at all before, and I also couldn't go into the Add On menu, so I went to the task manager and stop the Firefox.exe.
Now, it works well...:)
So, does it mean we cannot use Persona now? It's unfortunate, coz I love it, it's great. But if it causes problem with Firefox, it will be annoying.
Of course you can still use Persona! (: I'll quote myself from an earlier post:
In Firefox browser go the Tools menu> Add-ons> Themes. There should be a link near the preview and the Add Updates option called Get Themes. Clicking that should take you to the Persona's Gallery. The latest update of Firefox has the Persona's option integrated, therefore you are still able to have your desired theme.
