I can't SEND a message in Mozilla Thunderbird

I was away from home for about 24 hours over Xmas eve & day. And when I arrived home, I couldn't SEND any emails. I can receive them, but I cant SEND them. The error message I get is: “Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.comcast.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact the server administrator.” 

   So PLEASE HELP ME.  We're having a snowstorm here in Yarmouth Port, MA, so my PC guru can't get in.
