Why doesn't the google toolbar work in 4.0.1? I select it and it won't display!

I have re-loaded 4.0.1 to see if it just loaded incorrectly, but no. I select the Google Toolbar (from View/Toolbars) and it loads a blank gray bar to the page. But no info at all. I can choose and unchoose the toolbar repeatedly, same result. Plain gray bar.

If I can't add a search box to Firefox, I'll have to go back to IE. Help!

Try re-installing the Google Toolbar extension. It is known as problematic in Firefox and in Firefox 4 it's been more of a problem than before.

Or visit the Google Toolbar forum. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Toolbar?hl=en

Sounds good, but how do I do that?  :-) I've re-downloaded/installed the entire Firefox program already. Not sure how to re-install just the toolbar extension since it was included in the program. More help?

The Google Toolbar extension doesn't come with the official versions of Firefox that are downloaded from Mozilla download mirrors, maybe you installed a special "Google version" of Firefox 4.

{Ctrl + Shft + A} to open the Add-ons Manager tab, select Extensions, then locate the Google Toolbar extension, and hit the Uninstall button. Restart Firefox using the button in that extension dialog.

Install the latest version. https://www.google.com/intl/en/toolbar/ff/index.html

Ah ha. I have installed the google lite toolbar and it works fine.

However, I want to point out that 4.0.1 has a built-in option under View/Toolbars to select Google Toolbar. Even if you've downloaded no add-ons, simply the basic Firefox 4.0.1. I've deselected the Google Toobar, since is does nothing. Now I have the option to view the Google Lite toolbar, and that works just fine.

Thanks again for your help!
