When I type a URL in the location bar an alert says "the URL is not valid" when I know very well it is.
When I type a web address in the location bar I get an alert that says "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" and yet I know the address is valid. I went to the forum and it directed me to "location Bar search." It seems that others are having problems with the same thing. I tried to apply the changes to "Keyword.url" as suggested but got nowhere. For some reason the "domain guessing" app does not work anymore and when I type in, for instance, 'photo' it would remember photosight.ru and just go there. Not anymore! Please can someone help me to get back to basics as it was when I downloaded Firefox 4?? Thank you for any help you can give, BCBV.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
- Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
- Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:
- Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
Thank you for your help but unfortunately when I go into "Safe Mode" and disable all addons it still gives me the same result. Type in a URL and the box comes up with the message as before, "this is not a valid url and cannot be loaded."
I even typed in the link you gave me in your message to support.mozilla.com and it still said it was an invalid URL!
Thank you once again for your help, BCBV.
