I get an error message saying my browser is not equipped with java script and i cannot log into the site

The global setting is here:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Content > "Enable JavaScript"

If you have the NoScript add-on, then you need to allow the site in the add-on's white list.

---

If neither of those explains it, and you were able to use this site successfully before, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

1. Clear Firefox's Cache

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"

2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here

While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Here you can remove ally.com cookies. (If allybank.com doesn't forward you automatically, try going directly to ally.com)

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

People keep talking about noscript addon this and that---but I don't have a clue what that is or even if my Mac OS 10.6.8 has it, or what to do with it. Can you help?

NoScript is a security-oriented extension. By default, on any site you visit, the add-on will completely block scripts. This includes both the scripts from the main site and from related and third party (advertising) sites. If you trust the site, you use the NoScript menu on the Add-ons Bar or main Navigation Toolbar to allow the scripts to run. Sometimes this takes a few steps because the site will use more than one domain (this is true for YouTube, Facebook, Hotmail, and many others). You can make the permission temporary or permanent.

To see whether you have NoScript, check here:

Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

To get NoScript, visit this page: NoScript :: Add-ons for Firefox

Thanks for the reply. However, I checked (thanks for the instructions) and I don't have any add-ons. And I've cleared the cache. The Ally site (for that is what I have) works fine with Safari.

Any ideas why I can't access my mail through the gmail gadget?

@danasjewelryetc, NoScript is a type of Add-on known as an extension. To see what extensions you have installed, and to disable or remove them, check here:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Add-ons

On the left side, click the Extensions category.

By the way, Java and JavaScript, despite the similar names, are different. JavaScript is used on most web site and is processed by Firefox. Java is used to create applet that require a plugin; it's used on far fewer sites.

If there is a particular site that isn't working correctly, do you want to post the URL?

Thank you for responding to me. I finally found that this morning. That is the worse program I've ever downloaded. It controlled everything on my end so I'm sure nothing was able to get through to me too. And then not to be able to find it anywhere in my computer to delete the damn thing made me think it was a virus. I just so glad I was able to remove it, computer is running great again now.
