I've finally upgraded to Firefox 6, after much much hesitation, and now certain sites built in Flash won't work. They work just great in Safari. The upgrade to the latest Flash player worked for Safari, but not Firefox. I've updated the Shockwave player.

No matter how many times I download and install the newest player and restart my browser, it still tells me I have to download and install the newest flash player and restart my browser.

Even Firefox 5 doesn't want to work with Flash...

Seems like right now you don't have Flash installed.

-> Adobe Flash Player 10.3.183.7 (2.94 MB)

=> When Downloading Plugins Update setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)

-> Restart Firefox

Check and tell if its working.

That's exactly what I have been doing. Same Web address. Same Flash Player. Install. Restart.

Doesn't work.

Download Adobe Flash Player installer 10.3.183.7 (2.94 MB)

  • http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
  • When Downloading Plugins Update setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)
  • Close Firefox (click Firefox button and click Exit)
  • Open the install_flash_player.exe file, then follow the installer's instructions.

-> Start Firefox in Safe Mode by Holding down the Option key while starting your Mozilla Firefox application. (If the Profile Manager opens, select a profile and then hold down the Option key again while clicking the button to start Firefox.)

  • As an alternate method, go to Utilities (in the Applications folder) and open Terminal, then run:
    • /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-mode

-> Firefox Safe Mode window will appear -> DON'T SELECT ANY OPTIONS, just click Continue in Safe Mode

-> go to a website that uses Flash player:

Check and tell if its working while you are Browsing in Firefox Safe Mode.

Check and tell if its working.

Have done that. Many times. Also, I'm on a Mac, not PC, so I wouldn't be using an .exe file.

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

-> Basic Troubleshooting: Make a New Profile

-> If that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.

-> Recovering important data from an old profile

Check and tell if its working.

I, too, have done this many times. The Adobe page verifies that I have the latest Flash Player plugin. I followed their procedure of uninstalling the old plugin; checking that it was gone (it was); restarting my Mac (OS 10.6.8); downloading Firefox 6.0.2.; having it start in 32-bit mode rather than 64-bit mode; verifying my plugin on the Adobe verification page.

But when I open my webpage where I have placed an swfplayer object in my html page (using swfobject 2.0), Firefox gives me the button telling me to upgrade to the latest Adobe Flash Player plugin, which Adobe then tells me I have already installed. (And when I go to the system/Library/Internet Plug-ins folder and get info on the plugin just installed, it tells me it is the older version that I know was uninstalled before updating.) We are caught in a loop. Hope someone will fix this.

Thanks. :-)
