Firefox opens, but I can't see it. When I try to download another version, it tells me to close firefox first. How can I close it if I can't see it?

I try to sign on with firefox and I don't get a screen. I then go to another browser and go to firefox to try to download the latest version. I download the latest version and when I try to install it, I am told to close firefox first. I can't close firefox since I can't see it and I didn't know it was open. How can I close it so I can install the new version?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
