I've been getting pop-ups that have the FireFox logo with an address of "ad.bharastudent.com". Today I came back to the computer to find that site "Updating" my software. Operating with 7. I stopped it. Is it legit?

Try to create a test profile (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles explains how) and see if it works there. If it does, it is a problem in your old profile. Use the instructions in Recovering important data from an old profile to move your data from your old profile to this new one. Remember to move over as little as possible, to ensure you don't bring over the problem from the old profile.

It sounds like your computer may be infected with some sort of a virus / Malware.
I suggest the following resources:
Is my Firefox problem a Result of Malware is a Mozilla Support article with some good tips on avoiding and fighting malware.
To double check your system is clean, do the following (Not official Mozilla advice, just good practice from personal experience)
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Download and Run TDSSKiller http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363
Download and Install Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials (not an official endorsement, but I personally recommend MSE as an awesome permanent anti-virus)
Double check for all Windows Updates.
Uninstall all unidentified, unneeded or unwanted extensions. Uninstalling add-ons
If you are still having problems with Malware after that, I would recommend either http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/, or having your computer cleaned by a professional.
Thanks, I have malwarebytes and run MS Essentials. I do all the updates so everything is current. I will download TDSSKiller and give it a try. More to follow after downloads and scans.
Well, I ran TDSSKiller and it found nothing. Neither did malwarebytes (paid version) nor MS Essentials. Also ran SpyBot S&D with nothing found other than "WebFunProducts" which SB S&D can't seem to remove. Looking on the Internet I've followed the removal directions but the files it says to remove, I don't have. Things, however have changed. Now when I sign onto my iGoogle home page I get loud music playing in the background. I can stop it by not allowing google to redirect when using Firefox. If I open that page with IE it automatically starts the music. Any other suggestions or time to take the laptop to a professional?

Sorry for the long delay but temporarily the problem went away, then it returned with a vengeance. I started getting more pup-ups along with a home page redirect. I took your advice and created a new profile and at the same time added Adblock plus 2.0.3 and the Adblock pop-up blocker 0.3. All problems immediately stopped and I've been clean for 2 days now. Not sure which one worked but I've got a feeling it was the new profile. Thank you so much for your help. It's difficult to express how frustrating it is to have someone screw with my computer that I rely on so heavily. Again, THANK YOU!
