My "Open New Tab" (tab with "x") to right of already open tabs is missing..
I used to have the "Open New Tab" option (the small tab with an "x" to open new tab page) to the right of my already open tabs. I upgraded Firefox to newest version (12 maybe????....so many updates I can't keep up). This feature is gone as well as my Auto-Fill which were my 2 favorite features!!!

Perform the suggestions mentioned in the following articles:
- How do I customize or rearrange toolbar items?
- Restoring the default toolbar set
- Make sure that you are using the "Remember History" setting as described in this article -> Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track
Check and tell if its working.
Thanks! I have done the 1st 2 suggestion numerous times to no avail. And I double-checked the "Remember History" setting which is correct. Every time I update there is always something that doesn't work!! UGH!
This could be due to a problem with the file localstore.rdf. Perform the suggestions mentioned in the following articles:
- Changes to toolbars and window sizes are not saved
- Corrupt localstore.rdf -> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
Check and tell if its working.

That worked!!!!! .........until I dragged my toolbar selections back to toolbar locations. Then my "Open New Tab" tab was gone...AGAIN!!!

Actually this tab deal wasn't a specific setting that I know of. When I first chose to use the multiple tabs at the top of my Firefox page.....there they were. No matter how many pages/tabs I opened there was always a new blank one on the right of the tabs. The newest one is the size of the tabs that are "pinned" rather than full sized. This is much harder to explain in writing....so don't know if I'm being clear at all.
In the Toolbar Layout options there is an icon + that can be dragged to a toolbar, but it stands alone as opposed to being part of the tabs. I can click it to open another tab, but it's a 2 step process. I much preferred the other way.
I give up!
You can only have one new tab button that you can drag from the Tab bar to another toolbar to make it appear there.
You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.

Did you drag that new tab button to another position or placed other buttons on the tab bar?
You can also check if an installed add-on is causing the problem.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

What I'm trying to restore is the actual tab (which looks same as pin tab...same size as opposed to the regular tabs across the top of the screen) It left with update, then came back for some reason, and now is gone again.
I can find the + that you are talking about, and will have to live with that option I guess. Just don't like it. I liked being able to simply click on tab always just to the right of last tab across the top of screen. This opened the new tab. They still show it in pix on Firefox instruction re: Tabs.
In fact during process of trying all these suggestions, the old way appeared. Then when I was resetting Layout and put my Auto-Fill back (which had disappeared completely earlier...even on Layout Options) as well as Zoom In/Out, all seemed well. I saw the + icon but did NOT drag it to any toolbar!!!! But when I closed Options Window to see my Toolbars, WHAM!!! There was the + icon and the tab with + was gone again.
Sometimes Firefox really frustrates me. I still have hang time problems among others. The Tab feature is one reason I kept staying with Firefox :( Oh, well....... Thanks for trying to help.
