Firefox must add protection against crap sites , if I mistype cnnsi.com as cnnis.com firefox will choose cnnis over cnnsi next time I type that in browser

more options

Crap sites or ad sites, are sites that have an url very much like a "famous" url, these sites live on that people mistype an url and as such goes to their page instead.

For instance if I want to visit Sport Illustrated and go to cnnsi.com, but got fat fingers and mistype the url as cnnis.com and press return before I see my error I will then end up at the crap/ad site cnnis.com.

That is of course my own fault.

The problem is that more than often Firefox will give automatic preference to such a crap/ad site later.

The next time I start typing cn.. in the browser, Firefox will actually give cnnis.com as the first option.

I have tried erasing my history but the problem remains in many cases.

It would therefore be excellent if Firefox can add better protection against such leecher sites.

I would like for instance that I could right click when the wrong url comes up and there would be an option in the pop up box that allows me to block the unwanted url once and for all.

You can remove autocomplete suggestions, but not with a right-click. One way is to type cn and then arrow down to the bad entry and press the Delete key to remove it. At this point, the bad URL remains in the address bar, so arrow up or down to a legitimate URL to avoid accidentally going to that site again.

I think I've seen an add-on that stores lists of "typo domain" sites and stops you from visiting them or corrects your typo. But I haven't tried anything like that myself.
