When I click on boomarks icon the "edit this bookmark" window opens. If I then select the little arrow next to folder ttile to open the folder tree a part of the window becomes invisible & I can no longer see the cancel & done buttons. This seemed to happen after a udate i did to ubuntu 12.04 & has stayed even after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10.

That's strange! Could you try renaming the file that stores window dimensions and toolbar customizations to see whether that makes any difference? (If it doesn't help, you can delete the new file and restore the one you renamed.)

(1) Open your personal settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder

Help (or Alt+h) > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

(2) Switch back to Firefox and exit the program (e.g., File > Exit)

(3) Wait a few moments for Firefox to finish updating files in your settings folder, then rename localstore.rdf to something else, like localstore-bad.rdf or localstore.old. Alternately, you can delete the file.

(4) You're done with your profile folder and you can restart Firefox now.

Any luck?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
