Is there a known issue with Firefox 21 and Citrix ICA Client?

After Upgrading to FireFox 21 my browser no longer can detect that I have the Citrix ICA Client installed and prompts me every time I attempt to launch an .ica file from the internet. Upon multiple installs of the ICA Client from the prompts including Uninstalling it completely then reinstalling it I ignored the prompt and tried to launch the .ica file. It will launch only 1 .ica window no matter how many .ica files I click on. (Firefox 20 would allow me to launch several citrix sessions at a time.) Also when the 1 citrix session is open if I minimize it or bring another program to the foreground the .ica window becomes black and is no longer usable since you can no longer see anything in that window. Is this a known issue?? Currently I have had to unistall version 21 and found a version 20.0.1 that Ive installed disabling the automatic updates.

hello Souldysfunction, please try this: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named plugins.load_appdir_plugins. double-click it and change its value to true (a restart of the browser might be necessary afterwards for the change to take effect). some background on the issue is explained in http://www.ghacks.net/2013/05/15/why-you-may-have-lost-access-to-plugins-or-extensions-in-firefox-21/

This solved my problem: Citrix Presentation Server Client - Web Only, version 10.100.55836 not loading or working in Firefox 21.0.

It is unfortunate that this change wasn't made more obvious - I wasted over 10 hours doing system restores, uninstalling and re-installing various client versions before I found the cause of the problem - an alert at startup or an indication on the Add-ons Manager plugins page that plugins in the old folder were being ignored would have been very helpful.

Thanks for this explanation, none the less. Finally, I can get back to work and play.

I figured this out but it took me awhile. Maybe a couple of screen shots would be helpful!

Note that it is not recommended to install plugins in this way in the Firefox program folder because deleting the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall would remove them, but to use the Windows registry.

Citrix has a "receiver" download that worked for me when my Citrix stopped working on the new version of Firefox. http://www.citrix.com/products/receiver/overview.html

Although this helped with Firefox 21, I just installed Firefox 22 and Citrix will not load again. Any ideas?

I was able to fix my issue with Cirix in FireFox 21 thanks to the above suggestions..

However, now that Firefox 22 is out, I find that even though I can "log in" to the Citrix server, I can no longer launch any of the applications (mainly Remote Desktop),

I have had to revert back to using IE8 to log into Citrix in order to get to my work desktop. If anyone has a solution to this, I would very much appreciate any help I can get.

I'm facing excatly the same problem after updating to Firefox 22.0. "Login" to Citrix is working as expected, but none of the remote desktop applikations is starting (no error - just no reaction)

The Citrix ICA Client Plugin ist active

I think there is no way but downgrading back to 21.0

I also have the issue with firefox 22. I am able to logon but the desktop is not starting.

other users reported that it's possible to work around issues with the citrix ica plugin by using citrix receiver instead: https://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix-receiver.html

Thank You I installed the mentioned Citrix receiver and everything is working again on firefox 22.

Yes! Citrix Receiver does the job...

I installed Citrix receiver but it would not let me actually run the application pas the point where you are supposed to give it a URL (I guess to configure your account info). I tried giving it my work e-mail address as well as the Citrix server login URL and it would not accept either.

Are the folks saying that it fixed their issues saying that they are connecting via Citrix Receiver now instead of logging in to a Citrix server? (I won't work for me) Or did they install the Receiver app but use the Citrix Web login where they work and somehow the Citrix Receiver fixes the issues with the ICA Client?

I did install the receiver and restarted my laptop as requested by the install. Ater tthe restart I started firefox and typed in the url in the address space like I used to do whith the ICA client. I logon and after starting the desktop the receiver is started.

Thank you! I will give that a try

Thanks for this workaround. I did install receiver and it did allow me to launch the apps via my citrix portal at work. However, the apps are PAINFULLY slow to the point of being unusable. Any suggestions gratefully received Pete

I reinstalled receiver and I can now launch apps from the Citrix server. As PB12 mentioned, they are slow to launch, but once in instantiated (at least for me) they seem to work ok.

Nothing works to fix this except downgrading to Firefox 20. Citrix Receiver 4.0 isn't a recommended solution, although it might work, it will break other things, like the Citrix Access Gateway VPN client that is slightly older and other things. I just download and installed the last version 20 build, it will install right over top of the current 22 version. Then, disable auto updating of Firefox in the Options/Advanced settings Update tab. All is back to working fine again with the CitrixOnlineWebPlugin of old. Sad...

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

Get the latest 20 build and install over top of it, you will be happy again.

This thread helped me get past the problem for FF v.21 and now I hope to be helpful to someone with FF v.22. I'd rather not downgrade as a solution if at all possible. I'm on Windows 7, 64-bit.

We just use the Citrix online plug-ins here, the web one or the full one, depending on the user. I found that I needed to upgrade the plugins from v. 12.1.44 to 12.3 AND make sure that the Firefox options for applications (Tools menu > Options > select Applications tab) had content type "Citrix ICA client" set to "Use Citrix (default)." Having it set to "use Citrix ICA client (in Firefox)" did not work.

Surprisingly, mine was not already set to the supposed default, which is why I had trouble out of the gate. I honestly don't remember changing that before, but I might have....

I had to do the same thing. Reinstalled everything thinking it was something that I did.

Now same thing seems to be happening again with version 23. This is getting rediculous. I guess we're all <1% of important users.

back to IE?
