Can I set 'junk" controls to NOT open (show as read) emails when I manually mark them as junk?

I prefer to NOT open email messages that are junk, because I believe this could notify junk mailers that they have found an active email address. However, if I right click on an unopened email in my Inbox and select "Mark" and then "As Junk", the email is placed in my Junk mailbox (as I prefer) but shown as opened. Is there some way I can prevent the emails from being opened when they are put in my Junk mailbox?

You can try to un-check the 'Mark messages determined to be Junk as read' option.

In any case, when marking a message as Junk, it isn't opened. It just gets marked as 'Read'.

Many thanks for the quick response. I did not have the "mark as read" box checked, but it doesn't matter as long as a "read" email does not indicate it was opened. I am relieved. Thanks again.
