Due to 'someone' downloading something and getting malware, which should now be gone, but to clear completely removed firefox. Now using IE (yuk) tried to download FF. The firefox setup screen comes up and the rolling progress bar is going across the page but for 20 mins nothing more.

Thanks very much, loaded straight away with your link. Unfortunatley the offending malware is still there, mainly comes up when looking on ebay, couple of pop-up at the bottom and a new screen opens with it telling me to update my flash player, i don't think so. well back to the drawing board for me, many thanks again

hi again, please perform all these steps if you suspect that you have malicious software present:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
