How do I get a message filter to recognize an imported Address Book "Group"?

When I imported my address-book from RitLabs, "The Bat!", it came with "The_Bat_Addr", under which were five groups containing all the actual contacts and emails.

So I make a message filter at Inbox level to filter on the From: address being in one of the five groups.

However, in Thunderbird, filter will allow selecting "The_Bat_Addr", and never sees the 'Groups'. Thus no filtering.

How might I resolve this ?

tnx

The 'Address Book' contains 'address books' 'address books' contain 'Mailing lists' the 'Groups' you refer to are the 'Mailing lists'.

All contacts in a 'Mailing list' are in the associated 'address book'. the purpose of a 'Mailing list' is to enable sending one email to a specific collection of contacts. It is not another address book.

The best way to filter those email addresses/contacts currently selected as a Mailing List, is to create more 'address books' and place a copy of those contacts into it. Then you have both options. The ability to use as a Mailing list and also the ability to filter.

So a filter parameter will be: eg; 'From' and 'is in my address book' and name of 'address book'.
