It may be possible that it will comes as a bundled install from other softwares. In order to uninstall possibly unwanted Zone alarm extension :

Hi, you can remove the about:config entries by right clicking on them > Reset, then restart Firefox.

However if they come back, Zone Alarm must be still on your system. More here.

• MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
• Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
• AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

Did you transfer Profile from another computer that had Zone Alarm on it?

User set means it was changed wither by you or by and extension say as this is not in Firefox from mozilla.org

To be sure I do not have a zone alarm extension in my collection of FF extensions. I also am very careful when I download third party apps and as a second set of "eyes" I use unchecky to make sure I have unticked the PUPs.

Anyway I will follow the advice of Sribe to reset all the zone alarm files.

No I do not have anything of Zone Alarm on my device. NO toolbars, NO firewall( I use Avira and they incorporate Window's firewall). So I do not have malware, virus and what you have from ZA.

I t is beyond me how I got it. Anyway I will use the reset option.

It’s very sad, but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

You are right about that. Luckily I always choose the custom option. I also use a nifty app called unchecky which unticks the boxes which ask if one wants to install program xyz too (potentially unwanted programs).
