Upgraded from FF 40 to FF 41 when version 41 was released. Immediately , accessing web sites became a hassle. Almost immediately after trying to access a site , FF would come back with a screen saying "Unable to access server at <site>" with the "<site>" being the site address. Rarely would it connect on the first attempt , often taking several attempts before connecting. After a day of that , I uninstalled FF 41 and reinstalled FF 40. No more issues with connecting at all. Something must have changed in FF 41.

Any clues? The system is using Win XP SP3 and a dialup connection (have no option there). This is the first FF version that has had that issue.

I understand that you are connecting to the internet with dial up. I am happy to help the best I can. I would first try these instructions if you have windows:

This one is pretty old, and I could not test it, but there are some recommendations for configuration in Firefox that might, might! be helpful:

As I connect to the net using the ISP's front end software (CompuServe 2000) , direct dialing with Firefox would not work.

When version 41 was installed , it was a clean install (prior version removed first) and not via the upgrade patch. Version 40 was working just fine and the site access issue started only after version 41 was installed. Internet Explorer works just fine. The impression I get is that FF 41 does not allow adequate time for a site to connect as the error screen almost always came up within a second of hitting enter.
