Why is firefox not listed in my programs list? I want to add it to my "opens with" list.

My programs list does not contain Firefox, so I can't select it for my "opens with" list. I'm trying to get swf's to open with Firefox. Please help.

This is apparently a problem with Windows, generally, but even none of the "open X with Y" solutions for Windows won't work! One of them is going to "Default Programs, choose Associate file type..." but that won't work for a filetype windows has no idea exists (in this case, swf, despite having installed Flash Player), another is to edit a registry key at Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\[program name] but Firefox isn't listed.

Keazen oplossing

Open your file browser and find one of those files. Right-click and select Properties. Then select General.

Press the 'Open With' Change button. If what you want to use is not listed in the window, go to the bottom and press the Browse button. You will then have to find the program you want.

That....worked..?

At first I was going to say "that just brings up the same dialog that doesn't actually work" but I went through the steps anyway (it does bring up the same dialog, that's for sure) but it *did* add another program to the list this time.

Weird.
