And this nonsense about having a new username and password for every little thing on firefox; that is ridiculous. I already created a password once!

Hi

You need a username and password to make use of Firefox Sync and other services that make use of your Firefox Account, but this is purely optional. You do not need a username or password to browser the web with Firefox.

Thanks for your reply. My question is not about browsing the web, obviously. But every little chore or question or request takes me to another site that requires a separate password. Shoudn't one password be enough to cover all these firefox sites?

Hi

Many of these sites are probably not to do with Firefox, but are run by different companies or services.

I guess it is similar to having different security numbers for different bank cards or having different keys for a car, your house and your desk drawer. Each of the services that you use online may be for a distinct and different company.

Hi ErictheGreen, for historical reasons, these all have different login systems:

  • Support site (this one)
  • Firefox Accounts (for Sync, etc.)
  • Add-ons site (to post reviews)
  • Add-ons discussion forum (to discuss Add-on issues/requests)
  • Mozilla Developer Network (to edit articles)
  • Bugzilla bug tracking site (to post or help fix bugs)
  • Et cetera

It would be nice to someday have "one login to rule them all" but please don't hold your breath. Also, I would be surprised if you created more than 2 of these, maybe 3, unless you get very involved with Mozilla.

Different Mozilla sites can use different site or forum software.

Mozilla did allow you to use your addons.mozilla.org account on the then A.M.O support forum at forums.mozilla.org (before being moved to https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/c/add-ons ) however it was not without issues.
