why is my browser logging on to other sites when I'm using the scroll bar?

when i'm scrolling down a page, regardless of what page (facebook, yahoo, whatever) when i release the scroll bar, the browser opens a new link to some seemingly-unrelated page. don't want this, just want to use the damn scroll bar. why is this happening, how do i stop it?

thanks

That sounds suspicious, but nothing leaps immediately to mind as the likely cause. Some thoughts/questions:

  • Do you notice any pattern to the unrelated pages? For example, are they usually on the same advertising network?
  • Does it occur only with the "thumb" of the scrollbar (the part that moves up and down) or also with the down arrow button at the bottom?
  • Does it occur if you scroll using the mouse wheel (assuming you have a mouse with a wheel)?
