I would like marketing/Sales Ads from a particular merchant to go to a certain folder other than my Inbox. I set up a filter which works sometimes, but most of the times, it sends the e-mails to the Junk folder. I've tried clicking on the "Junk" icon of the email to flag it as "not junk" as well as selecting the message and then clicking on the "Not Junk" button. It removes the "Junk" icon, but I'm not sure it does anything else to the message. I thought this would flag the message as 'Not Junk' allowing my filter to then send the message to the folder I specify in the filter I created for messages from this sender. My global Junk folder settings is checked to enable "Adaptive Junk filter logging" but I see nothing in the Log ??? I am successful with filtering other messages, but not these. They are being flagged as "junk" and i can't seem to "unset" the junk flag on these messages. Please Help. Thanks.

right click your account in the folder pane and select settings.

Select Junk for the account and you will see a list of address books. If they are selected Thunderbird will not classify as junk any email that is in those selected address books. It is used as a "whitelist" by the junk filter.

If you are seeing mail marked a junk that is in the address book then you need to look further afield for the cause. For instance Yahoo IMAP refuses to allow you to decide what is an is not junk, stubbornly putting mail back in the junk folder after you take it out. over and over.

Check the message header. Is there a gold star beside the name? If yes. it is unlikely Thunderbird is marking the message as junk and quite likely it is your mail server or anti virus.

Ok, so when I view all headers, I do notice a gold star besides MY NAME, but I see this on many messages including this one I am responding to and these messages are not getting filtered as junk. Is the sender's name supposed to have a gold star or mine?

Thanks Matt. It took two steps to clear the issue. 1. First I added the sender to my address book - still no luck the messages continued to go to the Junk folder even after restarting Thunderbird. 2. I created a new filter for my main account, let's call it e-mail account A. So even though I had previously created a filter for Account B, the fact that I added this sender to my Address book did not help until I added the same filter to Account A. I'm not exactly sure why this matters, as I would expect the Address book to be shared by different accounts. Problem resolved. Thank You for your suggestions.
