When I left on a trip on 11/8, my inbox had hundreds of unread emails, all marked with boldface. When I returned yesterday (11/16), the newest bolded email was dated 11/13. (While I was gone I had no access to Thunderbird and used Comcast webmail instead.) Something happened on 11/13 that unbolded those hundreds of unread emails. It would be virtually impossible to go through the entire inbox and identify them, so this is a serious problem.

When I looked online for an answer, someone had advised starting in safe mode. I did so, but nothing changed. Unread emails between 11/13 and now were bold, but none before that date. Advice?

Is this an imap comcast mail account ? If yes and you read those emails via comcast webmail, then Thunderbird would synch with folders on server and update to show same as server. This is normal as imap accounts show a remote view of whatever is on server. In effect, the folders are one and the same.
