i can't stretch items in my toolbar
i can't stretch items in my toolbar
One of these images shows firefox on my personal laptop. The other shows firefox on my workstation.
Nevermind I was unable to upload.
I reinstalled firefox on my laptop because the new quantum version locks up on EVEERY SINGLE CLICK. I thought reinstallation might solve the problem but it has only added a whole new set of problems. Now I am unable to stretch items in my toolbar. I don't need a nine inch long address bar. I want my search bar and addon icons to show up in my toolbar. I don't want them to be off the page where I have to open up a flyout menu to see them.

Hi, sorry you got over looked. It can happen when swamped and was when you posted this as per the date as 57 came out on the 14th of Nov. So ya, busy and again sorry.
Suggest : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

When the address bar and search bar are side-by-side, when you hover the mouse pointer over the gap between them, Firefox display a double-headed arrow, which is your indication that you can click and drag to reallocate space between the two boxes. Two notes:
- This special arrow only appears in normal viewing, not in Customize mode
- If you want icons between the two boxes, you can move them together temporarily, do the reallocation, then separate them again (so Customize, move bar, exit Customize, resize, Customize, move bar, exit Customize)
See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars
If the address bar is still too much of a space hog:
Sometimes the settings file that stores window, dialog, and address/search bar dimensions becomes corrupted with nonsensical values. You can rename the file to restore the defaults.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Open Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > Exit
- (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstoreOLD.json. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.
Start Firefox back up again and your toolbar controls should have more normal dimensions.
That mini-reset will hide the menu bar and bookmarks toolbar. To get those back if desired:
You can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:
- right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
- (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily. - in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars
To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.
