I have several gmail accounts. Some of them work with Thunderbird but others have just recently been "blacklisted". This was never a problem until just a couple of weeks ago. I don't know what has changed or why some email accounts work with Thunderbird and others don't. Every time I try to send a message from one of the blacklisted gmail accounts I get an error message stating that "the mail server responded: 5.7.1 [F3] Mail rejected by policy. Blacklisted." I can STILL RECEIVE messages that are sent to these accounts in Thunderbird. I just can't SEND messages. If I log onto my account from a browser like Firefox or Chrome, I can get into my account and send messages with no problem, so it appears to be something that is specific to Thunderbird.

I was able to fix this problem by switching to a different email app. I migrated over to eM Client and am no longer getting any of these error messages. This is definitely something that is specific to Thunderbird. I am no longer using Thunderbird for my email.

Using gmails own website to view and send emails is irrelevant as it is not using the same server settings etc.

But if you have actuall been flagged as blacklisted then you need to find out from gmail why they have blacklisted you. https://support.google.com/a/answer/27642?hl=en

Perhaps this is from the recipient server which is blackmailing the gmail IP address.

I would start by resetting the IP address your computer is using and see if that fixes the issue. If that fails, use the above link to get info on what to do.

This does not address my problem. All of my gmail accounts use the same domain and it happens with ALL recipients not just some of them.

I tried re-setting the IP address... did not make any difference.

This is not a Thunderbird issue. You have been blacklisted. Thunderbird has not blacklisted you.

re : All of my gmail accounts use the same domain and it happens with ALL recipients not just some of them. Have you not the info..? How can I fix this problem? This is likely a temporary problem that happens only with some recipients. One option is to simply wait until the problem goes away. Otherwise, ask the recipient to add your domain name to their Approved Sender's list. If their mail service doesn't support approved senders, ask them to whitelist (approve) Gmail's sending IP addresses. After they do either of these things, mail will no longer bounce from that recipient.

Show me Gmail IP addresses to whitelist Ask the the recipient domain's IT administrator to add the following Gmail IP addresses to their Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) gateway's whitelist:

  • 64.18.0.0/20
  • 64.233.160.0/19
  • 66.102.0.0/20

Why is this happening? Some domains might use a Realtime Blacklist (RBL) service to identify and block mail from suspected spammers. If enough of those domains' users mark mail received from a particular IP address as spam, the RBL can blacklist that address, blocking all mail from it. If your mail is being bounced, it's possible that an RBL service has blacklisted your domain's IP address. What does Google do about this? Google is regularly in touch with RBL services to ask that they delist our IP addresses if they get blacklisted. However, because we can't prevent RBL services from blacklisting any of our IP addresses, nor guarantee the removal of them, Google support doesn't accept requests to delist blacklisted addresses. My domain doesn't send spam Gmail sends mail from a number of different IP addresses that shift regularly. If one of your messages goes out from an IP address that was blacklisted after someone else used it to send spam, your mail can start getting bounced. Mail bounces only from recipients who use the RBL that blacklisted the IP address, and only while the address remains blacklisted. Eventually, the RBL delists your IP address, or Gmail assigns you another sending address, and your mail no longer bounces.

This doesn't make any sense. If my gmail account has been blacklisted then why can I still send and receive email from Firefox but not Thunderbird? I followed all of the instructions above but nothing works for me. Is there anything else I can do?

Not that it matters now but sending from an Internet browser using the providers webmail interface does not use the providers SMTP server and the comparison is meaningless.
